Hope for the Future: BCD Scholarship winners

Penny Vossler, chair of the BCD, presents a scholarship award to Jacob Winter, senior at Ballard Huxley.

One of the best parts of being in the BCD is choosing a scholarship winner, or winners, each year among high school seniors who live in Boone County. This year we were able to award three scholarships. There was a tie for second place, with two awards given: one to Abbey Patel at Gilbert HS and Mason McClain at Boone HS. Both are active members of the community, with incredible volunteer experience and excellent academic records. They should go far!

Our first choice was Jacob Winter, who will graduate from Ballard Huxley. His essay shows how much he understands what real democracy looks like and shows a passion for justice and inclusion. He will start this fall at ISU with a major in biochemistry and plans to stay active in politics. Best wishes to Jacob , Mason, and Abbey! The future is bright.
