The Iowa Democratic Party has opened the biggest door knocking and voter outreach in recent years: Iowa Forward
The goal is to reach voters who have supported Democrats in the past but may have missed an election or only voted in the presidential race. The key is to make direct contact, wherever possible, with voters who are more likely to back Democratic candidates if they receive a friendly reminder or nudge. Boone County is combined with Hamilton and Webster counties for this effort. The coordinator operates out of the office in Fort Dodge. She has met with volunteers interested in driving and door knocking (all outreach is conducted in pairs; nobody goes alone) and has already led two weekends of campaigning here in Boone County. Our efforts are targeting independent, rural, and working class voters, people too often dismissed and neglected. The goal for the state is to knock thousands of doors! There are 100’s of doors to be knocked and you can be a part of this.
I joined one of those door‑knocking outings and felt deeply satisfied by the thoughtful conversations we had. We want to learn what matters most to these voters. When people aren’t home, we leave informative literature.
This election could be decided by just a few votes in either direction, so we want to ensure as many voters as possible understand how important these races are and that they have a clear plan to vote. If you’re interested, we would love to have you join us—drive, knock on doors, or make phone calls to friends, neighbors, and others you know. The next day of action is Aug. 23rd.
